Is this image AI? Check what the file says

Many AI tools write their name into the file: a signed Content Credentials record, an IPTC tag, or the prompt itself. This reads all of it and tells you plainly what each picture claims, and what a file can’t tell you.

A missing label proves nothing

When we read 50 AI images from Wikimedia Commons on 24 September 2026, 25 carried no label at all. Signed Content Credentials didn’t survive a single re-save, resize, crop or screenshot-style redraw in our tests. So “says nothing” is a common answer for AI pictures too, and it never shows that a person made the image.

Labels, watermarks and platform tags are separate

This check reads labels stored in the file. An invisible watermark such as Google’s SynthID sits in the pixels instead, and no public detector exists for it, so no metadata reader can confirm or rule one out. The “AI info” or “Made with AI” tags you see on social apps are set by each app when a picture is posted.

Your images stay with you

The check reads each file on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you don’t need an account. Close the tab and it’s gone.
