Which pictures come out exact

A picture stored as JPEG comes out as that same JPEG, byte for byte. Pictures stored any other way are unpacked and saved as PNG, which keeps every pixel. Each card says which of the two you got.

Is it the photo you put in?

That depends on the app that made the PDF. Some put your JPEG in untouched, camera details and all; others save it again, smaller. Our guide below has the results for the apps we tested.

Pictures that are left out

Black-and-white scans stored in the fax formats JBIG2 and CCITT, and pictures printed in named spot inks, are listed but not saved. PDF to PNG saves each whole page instead, with those pictures in it.

Same picture, many pages

A logo repeated on every page is stored once in most PDFs and comes out once. Pictures kept in the file but not shown on any page are listed too, marked as unused.

Your files stay with you

Your PDFs are opened and saved on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you don’t need an account. Close the tab and they’re gone.
