Remove metadata from a PDF

PDFs often carry the author’s name, the app and computer that made them, and when. See what yours hold, then save clean copies.

Several steps, or a whole batch? Chain this with other tools in a Workflow and run them in one go.

What is removed

The document details (title, author, subject, keywords, the app that made and saved it, and the dates), XMP metadata blocks, private data some apps keep for re-editing, the file names and details LaTeX keeps for each figure, and attached Content Credentials (C2PA) records.

What stays

Text, pictures, links, bookmarks, form fields, comments and attachments are left alone. Words on a page, like a name in a footer, are part of the page and aren’t touched.

Pictures inside the PDF

Photos placed in a PDF can still carry their own camera details. Compress PDF saves pictures again, which clears those as well.

Password-protected PDFs

A PDF that needs a password to open, or that is locked against changes, can’t be edited here. If you know its password, take the protection off first with our Unlock PDF tool, then add it back with Protect PDF.

Your files stay with you

Your PDFs are opened and saved on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you don’t need an account. Close the tab and they’re gone.
