Make an image under 500 KB

At 500 KB, photos up to about 6 megapixels still keep every pixel. The tool lowers the quality first and only makes the picture smaller once quality has reached 40.

Where 500 KB starts to bite

In our test the 6-megapixel waterfall photo, 2.95 MB, fit at full size with quality 54, and a 4.3-megapixel photo kept quality 79. Only the 18-megapixel bridge photo had to shrink: from 5388 to 4019 pixels wide, about 56% of its pixels, at quality 43.

Photos that were already small

A 1408 by 768 photo of 806 KB came back at 271 KB, full size and quality 92, the highest this tool uses. When the limit doesn’t force anything, the file can still get smaller, because it is saved again and without its hidden data.

Big batches take a while

Each image is saved several times to find the best quality that fits. The 18-megapixel photo took about 10 seconds on a fast laptop; the 4 and 6-megapixel photos took 3 to 4 seconds each.

Your files stay with you

The images are processed on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you don’t need an account. Close the tab and they’re gone.
