English letters and numbers read in every language. The first image in a new language takes a moment longer.

What reads well

Screenshots and clean scans come back almost word for word: in our tests, fewer than 1 character in 100 was wrong, and a screenshot took about a second. A sharp, evenly lit photo of a page did as well. Two pages photographed side by side are the exception: their lines get mixed together, so crop them apart first.

Small, turned and tilted text

Small text is scaled up and read again when that reads more clearly, and a slight tilt is straightened. A page on its side or upside down is turned before reading, which takes a few seconds longer. Blur is what can’t be fixed afterwards: take the photo again.

Receipts

Receipts are the hard case: faded print, fold lines and dotted till fonts. Crop the picture to the receipt itself, since a dark table or scanner bed around it gets read as noise, and check every price against the paper before you rely on it.

Scanned PDFs

Drop a PDF and each page is read as a picture, up to 50 pages, with a page marker between them. If the PDF already has text you can select, PDF to text copies it exactly and in a fraction of the time.

Languages

Pick the language of the text before you start: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian. Reading with the wrong one mostly costs accents and special letters. Handwriting isn’t supported.

Your images stay with you

The reading happens on your own device. Your images and the text in them are never uploaded or stored, and you don’t need an account. Close the tab and they’re gone.
